Shopify Summer Edition: Easy receipts, return rules & sales data

Briefly introduce the new updates in the Shopify Summer Edition, highlighting their significance for retailers.

Mention the focus on enhancing the Point of Sale (POS) system to improve in-store operations.

It is the benefit of an integrated point-of-sale system (POS) for improved customer service, productivity, and sales.

Easy Receipts

Customer Recognition:

Shopify POS now recognizes in-store customers who are Shop Pay users. When these customers check out, their email is automatically displayed, making the process faster and more efficient.

Example: Since all transaction information is protected in the customer’s email, there’s no need for them to worry about missing paper receipts.

Option for Marketing:

Customers can choose to receive digital receipts, and while doing so, they can opt into marketing communications.

Example: A customer has options for a digital receipt and a checked box to receive promotional emails. This adds them to your marketing list for future campaigns.

Enhanced Marketing:

Collecting emails for digital receipts helps build a comprehensive customer database for future marketing efforts.

Example: Use the collected emails to send personalized offers and updates, increasing customer engagement and sales.

Return Rules

The POS system automatically checks if a product is eligible for return based on pre-set policies.

Example: If a product is outside the return window, the system will notify the staff and provide reasons for the ineligibility.

Return Rules Settings in Shopify

The return window specifies the period during which a customer can return a purchased item.

This setting determines who bears the cost of shipping when an item is returned. Providing free return shipping can increase consumer satisfaction and boost sales.

A percentage or set sum that the consumer must pay when returning an item is known as a restocking fee. the costs associated with processing returns and restocking the inventory.

Examples of final sale items might be products that can’t be returned, such as perishable, custom, or personal care items with large discounts.

You can include multiple products or collections to the final sale item exceptions, but not both.

The return rules must be turned on by clicking the “Turn on” button at the top of the page.

Once activated, these rules will apply to all items purchased after the rules are turned on or updated.

Email Collection:

The POS prompts staff to capture customer emails during checkout, ensuring data collection is consistent.

Example: Staff are reminded to ask for and record customer emails at every transaction.
